Cultural x Collabs Weaving The Future ist ein Projekt des Museums für Islamische Kunst im Pergamonmuseum, Berlin,
"Hauptperson" dieses Projektes ist ein wertvoller kaukasischer Drachenteppich aus dem 17. Jahrhundert, der sich seit 140 Jahren in der Sammlung befindet. Im zweiten Weltkrieg durch eine Brandbombe teilweise zerstört, wurde er 2004 restauriert, wobei die zerstörten Bereiche neutral ergänzt wurden. 2022 wurde von dem 6 x 3 m großen Original ein gespiegelter Doppelgänger in Rajasthan handgeknüpft. Dieser wurde in 100 Fragmente zerschnitten, die seit der Schließung des Museums für Islamische Kunst wegen Renovierungsarbeiten durch die Welt reisen. Sie sollen kulturelle Grenzen überbrücken und Menschen weltweit miteinander verbinden. Zur Wiedereröffnung im Frühjahr 2027 kommen alle 100 Fragmente wieder zusammen - die Erzählungen verbinden sich.
Dieses Projekt hat mich bei meinem Besuch der James-Simon-Galerie in Berlin im Mai 25 fasziniert. Die 100 Fragmente inspirieren zu Vielem, sie werden verändert, in neue Kontexte eingebunden, erhalten andere Bedeutungen, lernen Menschen und Orte kennen. Und am Ende ihrer Reise fügen sie sich alle wieder zusammen und ihre Erlebnisse, ihr Spirit wirkt mit und aus dem neu Entstandenen. Es macht mich sehr glücklich, ein Teilchen dieses wunderbaren Projektes zu sein. Mit 9 weiteren Künstlerinnen und Künstlern entsteht in München ein eigenständiges Kunstprojekt fragment51_cxc Alle 10 setzen sich in ihrem höchst eigenen Stil mit dem Teppichstück auseinander .I

A joint exhibition of five artists from Havana and Munich at the Centro Provincial de Arte Plàstica y Diseño de la Habana
and workshops for pupils in San Alejandro, Academia nacional d bellas Artes !
Organized in Havana by Irmi Stark and Nelson Ramos Sandoval, in Munich by Berit Opelt and Liz Walinski.
The group exhibition of German and Cuban artists will run from February 16 to March 14, 2024. In addition to the four-week exhibition, five practical workshops enabled and deepened intercultural encounters and artistic exchange between people from both countries.
The theme “AGUA WATER” was chosen as a common, unifying element for the exhibition. The participating artists created thematically related works in their own specific style. Berit Opelt's focus in this project is on a mixture of drawing and photography, while Liz Walinski creates her works in an experimental way using cyanotype. Nelson Ramos Sandoval creates paintings with a cultural background and sculptures with found objects from the sea. Carlos Rafael Acosta Avilés is a painter with a great fondness for the sea and Tomás Nuñez creates sculptures from materials such as bronze and concrete based on found objects from the sea that do not actually belong there.
The artists from Germany were invited by the management of the “Centro Provincial de Arte Plastica y Diseño de Habana” to realize the exhibition there in the three exhibition rooms. The “Centro Provincial de Arte Plastica y Diseño de Habana” is dedicated to the study and dissemination of contemporary art and fosters exchange with various countries.
With this project, the artists would like to initiate an intercultural exchange between artists from Munich and Havana and promote understanding for the other culture.

Not to depict what is perceived, but to create her own pictorial world based on what is perceived.
Berit Opelt's aim is to integrate familiar objects into the creative process, subordinate them to the painterly and thus make them the basis of the latter, as it were.
Bimorphic structures are used, alienated and reinterpreted as new carriers of symbols. This results in complex, profound works that provide the viewer with ever new insights.
The shortest of all lyrical forms, three groups of words, seventeen syllables - the Japanese haiku.
Perseverance, discipline, adherence to rules, clarity - nevertheless a special and comprehensive form of existential experience. Anni Rieck's current wire-and-paper objects deal with these aspects both formally and thematically. Reduced, quiet, mostly monochrome works reflect this seemingly superficial contradiction.
With this pictorial translation, she invites viewers to discover their own poetry, new contexts and experiences.
